This family owned property is located in the heart of the Bordeaux winemaking region in Entre-Deux-Mers. The wine is made from 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc grapes and spends 12 months in small French oak barrels. This is a rich, full-bodied dry wine with loads of ripe fruit flavors and is soft and smooth on the palate. This is clearly a steal for red Bordeaux in this price range. Match with red meats or strong cheeses.

My top choice for turkey day. Over the years I tend to select Cru Beaujolais for Thanksgiving dinner because it complements the meal so well. This years favorite is the Piron Brouilly, what a fantastic wine. Explosive aromas with plummy, juicy, red fruits and ripe grape flavors. At twenty dollars a bottle this is the deal to be had, and you could even age the wine a few years, imagine that!

Half Pinot Noir & half Gamay grapes from Burgundy. Poor mans red Burgundy at its best with just enough stuffing to pair with many a holiday fare. Red cherry fruit flavors with a very light pepperiness. One glass is just not enough, too inviting.

The Saint-Chinian wine appellation is located in Southern France, inland from Montpellier. I visited this rough and rocky dry region on a wine tour in 1992 when the appellation was just starting to ramp up their quality. Nadia and Cyril Bourgne make this hearty, dry red wine from 39% Carignan, 30% Grenache, 16% Mourvèdre and 15% Syrah grapes. Pair with red meats or lamb.

Classic styled Loire Valley Sauvignon Blanc from the master of Montlouis and Vouvray. Most of the fruit comes from Chidaine's biodynamically farmed vineyards while some fruit comes from reliable local sources. Minerals and citrus are packed into this beauty that shows surprising length and complexity for the appellation. This is a great lower-priced alternative to the popular sauvignons produced in the eastern Loire Valley.

The region of Quincy is also know for Sauvignon Blanc and makes a style which is typically creamier and softer than the other wines of the region. The Bailly family have been wine-makers in Sancerre from father to son since 1700. They have had a bit of practice you might say!

Menetou-Salon is just South of Sancerre and makes a Sauvignon Blanc that is a touch herbaceous and often floral with flavors of Grapefruit and minerals. This pungent wine is a great partner for the goat cheeses for which the region is so famous.

In the foothills of the Alps northeast of Lyon exists a little-known wine growing area named Bugey Cerdon. Bugey is the area and Cerdon is a small town within. In this small region a hand full of dedicated growers continue to produce a wonderfully refreshing, off-dry rosé sparkling wine, the Méthode Ancéstrale. Lightly sparkling with just 8% alcohol, this is the type of wine that is perfect for the holidays when the house is full of guests. Very unique and highly recommended. (Organic)
